Russia and Ukraine on Wednesday exchanged detainees serving their sentences in prisons in both countries under a bilateral agreement.
"The exchange of detainees between Russia and Ukraine has taken place," Russia's human rights commissioner Tatyana Moskulkova was quoted as saying.
The Commissioner expressed the hope that criminal cases against citizens of Russia and Ukraine would be closed in the process.
Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov welcomed the completion of the operation.
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelinsky had a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin after the completion of the exchange.
Zielinski described the exchange of detainees as the first stage of implementing his agreements with Putin.
Putin and Zelensky discussed the issue of the detainees during their first telephone conversation last July.
