Shortcomings in the fight against corruption: Court of Auditors complains Ministry of Transport

2019-10-09T05:23:26.214Z

Federal Transport Minister Scheuer counters the danger of corruption in his own house too negligently. This is the result of an investigation by the Federal Court of Audit.

The Federal Court of Auditors attests to the Federal Ministry of Transport deficits in the fight against corruption. In a report to the Budget Committee of the Bundestag, the auditors complained that the ministry said that "the risk and risk analyzes provided were sometimes not carried out on a regular basis or not updated on an ad hoc basis," reports Die Welt.

For example, the ministry led by Andreas Scheuer (CSU) neglected the question of the "duration of employment of employees in particularly vulnerable areas of work". The terms of reference of individual authority officers were not monitored so that the traffic authorities "could not ensure regular and systematic rotation".

In addition, the Court of Auditors complains about the Ministry's information policy towards the Bundestag. The data on corruption prevention in the federal administration, which the ministry reported to Parliament's Audit Committee for the annual report, were partly flawed and outdated.

The Court of Auditors, according to Welt, calls for a "significantly improved implementation" of the relevant anti-corruption directives in the Department of Transportation. Because especially in this ministry with its high volume of investment come "the prevention of corruption of particular importance," write the auditors.

The budgetary spokesman for the Greens in the Bundestag, Sven-Christian Kindler, accused Scheuer in view of the report, "close the risk of corruption in-house eyes". In his past term of office, Scheuer has placed many orders with private consultants and started expensive privatization projects, Kindler told Die Welt. Therefore, it was "irresponsible that the minister apparently does not care about the prevention and fight against corruption".
