Bavaria's Minister of Construction, Hans Reichhart, has sharply criticized the federal government's planned cuts in subsidies for social housing. "The intention of the federal government to reduce the funds for the social housing by half a billion euros, is incomprehensible and exactly the wrong signal," said the CSU politician of the "Augsburger Allgemeine" before the start of the federal-state conference. "Social housing is the social issue of our time and a guarantor of social peace."
Instead of spending more money for the construction of new social housing, Reichhart said: "We demand an increase to two billion euros annually." Bavaria has "steadily increased the state funds in recent years" and set in housing construction "important impetus," said Reichhart. "Now the covenant is mandatory."
At the Conference of Building Ministers, Bavaria also wants to promote improvements to the construction of buildings made of wood, which in the future could be built more easily up to the high-rise building boundary: "In ecological building with wood, we see great potential," said Reichhart. "At the Bauminist Conference, we are setting the course now to build faster, easier, and, above all, higher." Buildings made of wood with up to eight storeys should soon be permitted in Bavaria.
