Defender Silvan Heiß feels comfortable - in his role and with the concept of SC Riessersee. The next success should be in the derby against EC Peiting.

Garmisch-Partenkirchen - Silvan Heiß deliberately chose a career as an ice hockey field player. Just don't stand between two red posts and fend off the target as a goalkeeper. Or expressed with a wink: "I didn't want to compare to my father," he says and laughs. The father of the defender from SC Riessersee is no stranger. German champion in 1995 with the Cologne Sharks, participant in nine world championships and three times he was senior in the goal of the German ice hockey Olympic team. His name: Josef "Peppi" hot.

His son Silvan has been playing at SCR for two years now. He stood on the ice for the Werdenfelser in his youth. "It's fun in our young team," emphasizes the 23-year-old. No wonder, after all, not only is the puck running perfectly through the rows of the SCR, but the Garmisch-Partenkirchner have also reached the top group in the table. And the SCR wants to stay there after the games against peiting and pastures. "We are all happy that things are going well at the moment," says Silvan Heiß. "With Memmingen and Deggendorf, we deservedly beat two strong opponents recently." The next success in the derby is now to be achieved.

Hot believes in it. He feels comfortable in the number four SCR jersey. "I've actually always had this number," he says. "Even in youth and maybe a little bit, because Uwe Krupp used to have it." Since his return from Landshut in 2018, the defender has been looking forward to a lot of missions. "I definitely have more ice age here." The philosophy of his current club plays an important role, of course. “Toni (editor's note: Söderholm) asked me then whether I didn't want to come back,” he recalls. "The concept - working with mostly young players - convinced me and that's why I'm here now." He has never regretted this step. "The family environment is important," he emphasizes. Add to that the good atmosphere in the team: "Some of us have known each other since they were little and I have a friendly relationship with many." Professional ice hockey with his buddies - there are definitely worse things. He is well aware that he was able to turn his hobby into a profession. Even if he sometimes feels flat and has to start again for training. "It's still awesome to come to the cabin every day."

At the same time, Heiß was not a high-flyer among youngsters. No one that stood out. "But always solid," emphasizes Heiß and grins. In his youth he went to Regensburg for six months. The move to Landshut took place in 2016. Now he's back at his home club. And he wants to get as far as possible this season. “I'm really looking forward to the playoffs. After all, we play all year round. "

So that the starting position is right for the decisive phase of the championship, the SCR wants to conquer fourth place if possible. So points are needed. If possible, against Peiting today. "They are in a really good mood right now and focus on defending," said SCR trainer George Kink. For his team, this means: "Allow little counterattack." And if a striker does manage to get through, there is still a defender by the name of Heiß. Silvan Heiß.
