Damascus-Sana
The Deputy Minister of Higher Education for Student Affairs, Dr. Riad Tayfour, confirmed that there is no comment to register for the media program of the open education system for the academic year 2019-2020.
Dr. Tayfour said in a statement to SANA today that the Higher Education Council did not approve the proposal made by the Council of the Faculty of Information to suspend enrollment in the program for one year only, stating that stopping the registration in any of the disciplines needs to be studied in depth and wait and step must not be rushed. .
On the other hand, Dr. Tayfour pointed out that the requirement of two years to obtain a high school diploma for enrollment in the open education system “remains and continues to work and has given good results” indicating at the same time that students over the age of 24 years can enroll in open education regardless Regard the date of obtaining secondary school certificate.
In turn, Dr. Mohammad Al-Omar, Dean of the Faculty of Information, University of Damascus, said in a similar statement that the College Council had submitted a proposal to the Council of the University of Damascus, which in turn raised the proposal to the Council of Higher Education to suspend registration for one year only because of the pressure on the college and the small number of teaching staff “18 faculty members” who do not It is commensurate with the numbers of students applying and the lack of sufficient job opportunities to accommodate graduates later in the media institutions, pointing out that about 1200 students enrolled in the media program last year.
Dr. Al-Omar pointed out that the Ministry of Higher Education asked the Council of the Faculty of Information to submit other proposals to solve the problem of pressure on the college, including determining the number required to register in the program for the current academic year and put new conditions in this area.
He said that the college council suggested that in order to accept the student in the media program, he would get 60% in the foreign language instead of 50% and 70% in the Arabic language instead of 60%, but this is still pending. It will reflect positively on the level and quality of students applying to college.
