The Committee on Budget and Accounts in the People's Assembly discussed the investment budget of the Ministry of Electricity and its affiliated bodies for 2020, amounting to 53 billion and 215 million pounds.
In their interventions, the members of the Committee questioned the future plan for the stability of the electrical system, the abundance of renewable energy projects, the National Energy Research Center plan, measures to reduce electricity losses, meet the increasing demand for them in the winter, and combat illegal exploitation.
Members of the committee proposed loans for the installation of alternative home appliances and the localization of the solar collectors industry to reduce the cost to citizens and the establishment of a power plant in Saddad and the delivery of electricity to the neighborhoods of Sakhour and Hanano in Aleppo and reconsider the segment of electricity for industrial and commercial activities.
In response to the members' interventions, Minister of Electricity Mohammad Zuhair Kharboutli said that the ministry has a plan to raise production to 9,000 megawatts in the coming years. Form installments with invoices and work on an automated reading project to adjust electrical losses and switch counters to combat network infringement.
