The Committee on Budget and Accounts in the People's Assembly discussed the investment budget of the Ministry of Economy and Foreign Trade and its affiliated bodies for 2020, amounting to one billion and 617 million pounds.
Members of the Committee inquired about the economic imports achieved from the last session of the Damascus International Fair, the survey conducted by the Small and Medium Enterprises Authority, the status of the Free Zone in Aleppo, the role of the Foreign Trade Corporation and the reality of import and export licenses.
He called on the committee members to activate commercial attachés in embassies to promote Syrian products, strengthen the policy of import rationalization to support the local product and give priority to importing the requirements of industrial and agricultural production.
In response to the members' interventions, Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade Dr. Mohammad Samer Al-Khalil explained that there is a new vision to reorganize the work of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority and train its cadres, and that there is an ongoing study to invest the free zone in Aleppo and establish a factory for industrial towing and starch in the industrial city of Hasia in Homs.
