Washington (CNN) - The FBI received more than 38,000 tracks from the public during the first full week of August after 31 people were shot dead in shootings in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio, an office official said. .

The clues, presented to the agency's National Threat Operations Center (NTOC), are a significant increase as the FBI has received an average of 22,000 tips per week this year. The official said the number of threats he receives varies each week, but the fluctuation shows that more people called the center after the mass shootings in Dayton and El Paso on August 3 and 4.

The official also said that not all calls to the NTOC become active FBI investigations and some are passed to the local police. Not all the clues you receive are actionable and some are not really clues at all, and some informants are people who give their opinions or thank the agency for their work.

More than two dozen people have been arrested this month for threats of mass shootings, including a 22-year-old man from Connecticut for expressing interest in committing a mass shooting on Facebook. FBI Director Christopher Wray directed the agency's field offices to identify threats similar to recent shootings. The FBI official said that not all recent arrests were called to the NTOC or are from specific FBI investigations.

In a statement, the FBI warned people to "remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police immediately."

“Suggestions regarding violations of federal law or threats to national security can be sent to the FBI by calling local offices or 1-800-Call-FBI, or online at http: //www.tips.fbi. gov, ”said the statement.
