The tragedy left at least 4 people dead and around 50 injured. The explosion of a gas truck destroyed 14 homes in the Peruvian capital, Lima.
The explosion occurred as a result of a gas leak caused by the stopping of a pipe from the truck following a bump on the road.
"The majority of the injured have burns on around 80% of their bodies," said Health Minister Maria Luisa Hinostroza. Seven children are in serious condition, said the director of the Institute of Health, Ricardo Zopfi, who was interviewed by a radio station.
The very spectacular accident took place when the majority of the 500,000 inhabitants of the Villa El Salvador district left to go to work.
13 fire trucks were required to deal with the explosion fire.
