The Austrian extreme cyclist Christoph Strasser has covered 1026.215 kilometers within 24 hours and, according to his team, set a new world record.
The 38-year-old surpassed the previous record of 914 kilometers thanks to an average speed of 42.75 kilometers per hour.
Strasser had to spend many hours
ride in the pouring rain on the 7.6-kilometer circuit in the Austrian Zeltweg.
Without the bad weather, more would have been possible, said the very relaxed-looking athlete after crossing the finish line on Saturday.
The nutritional concept with liquid food was a key to success.
According to his team's calculations, the extreme athlete consumed 14,400 calories.
More records could have been broken
According to the information, Strasser also set numerous other world bests on the occasion, for example over 100 kilometers, 200 kilometers, over six and over twelve hours.
The results have not yet been officially confirmed.
The only visible problems Strasser had with two flat tires when he had to change the bike.
The Austrian is a six-time winner of the Race Across America (RAAM).
He has been involved in extreme sports for around 15 years and, according to his own statements, has contested around 40 long-distance races so far.
