The Tokyo Olympic Organizing Committee announced the registration of 17 new infections with the Corona virus among the participants in the Olympics.

The organizers said in a statement that "17 new cases of coronavirus were recorded, bringing the total number of infections to date to 110," adding that "of the infections, 56 are Japanese and 54 are foreigners, and among the infected are 13 athletes, 8 representatives of the media and one volunteer."

The statement indicated that 3 new injuries were recorded in the Olympic Village, bringing the number of injured residents to 12.

The games, which open today and will continue until August 8 last year, were postponed due to the Corona pandemic, and strict health measures were taken in Japan in order to hold the global event scheduled once every four years.

The competitions during the Olympics will be held in stadiums without an audience, while tens of thousands of participants, including athletes, officials and journalists coming from abroad, are subject to strict health restrictions.
