Werder Bremen, relegated to the Bundesliga, was initially superior in the second division against Hannover 96, but then had a hard time. After Bremen's leadership, a dream pass from the Hanoverian Sei Muroya compensated for it.

In the first second division game for Werder Bremen since 1980, the North Germans did not get beyond a 1: 1 (0: 0) against Hannover 96.

Both goals were scored by the Hanoverians: Simon Falette scored the Bremen lead in his own goal (49th), Marvin Ducksch equalized only a little later (55th).

Werder even threatened to lose in the end, and Hanover missed several promising opportunities in the final phase.

For both teams it was the first competitive game with their new head coach: At Werder Markus Anfang took over after relegation, Hannover signed Jan Zimmermann from the third division promoted from the Hanover region, TSV Havelse.

The game was relegated to the Bundesliga in the early stages and Werder also had the first chance: Yuya Osako failed with a low shot at goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler (9th).

Hanover barely made it behind the Bremen defensive chain around the strong captain Ömer Toprak in the first round.

So a long-range shot was needed, Florent Muslija had the best chance for a long time with his crossbar shot (25th).

Falette heads into his own goal

Shortly after the break, Falette headed a corner from Niklas Schmidt in a header duel with Toprak into his own goal (49th), but then almost only Hannover made the game. That had mainly to do with Sei Muroya, Ducksch shot a cross from the right-back to the post (53rd), after a dream pass from his own half Ducksch then lifted free in front of Werder goalkeeper Michael Zetterer (55th).

Zetterer celebrated his competitive debut for Bremen because regular goalkeeper Jiri Pavlenka was injured.

And it was the 26-year-old who saved Bremen from an opening defeat in the closing stages.

First Zetterer parried a shot from Philipp Ochs (75th), then he also held against Ducksch (84th).

Ducksch could have shot the Hanoverians single-handedly to victory, free in front of the goal he had already missed (82nd).

The second Bundesliga season opened on Friday with the second Bundesliga relegated Schalke 04 and Hamburger SV (1: 3).

On Saturday Dynamo Dresden had already won 3: 0 against FC Ingolstadt, Rostock lost 1: 3 against Karlsruhe, Darmstadt lost 0: 2 against Regensburg and Heidenheim and Paderborn parted goalless.
