Although Berlin-Brandenburg Airport has a new opening date, it probably needs more money again. Guilt is obviously missing staff.

At the weekend it had already been reported that Berlin-Brandenburg Airport (BER) could once again cost € 300 million more than was planned recently. After this message of "Bild am Sonntag", which relied on confidential reports, airport chief Engelbert Lütke Daldrup has now confirmed possible additional costs. Although the airport company FBB did not mention a specific number on Monday, it said that more money was needed, for example, for personnel. Talks with the partners were in progress.

Airport chief Daldrup said in the special committee of the Brandenburg state parliament in Potsdam, it would be needed about 200 coworkers more, in order "to be able to operate the BER safely". This would mean significantly higher increases in the construction price than previously calculated at two percent. On the other hand, there would be positive effects such as more revenue from a little more traffic and from own real estate.

Airport BER: reopening

The "Bild am Sonntag" had written that there was a new hole of 300 million euros. According to a confidential model, the financial planning for 2021 to 2024 still lacked 212 million euros for the completion of the main terminal, another 60 million would be needed for the expansion. So far, 508 million euros have been planned in the business plan for additional costs, the sum rising to 792 million.

FBB finance director Heike Fölster said on Monday: "We are in the process of setting up a new business plan." Since the wishes are always much larger than the money that one has available. "How the number will be then is to be discussed." Fölster spoke for the coming year of a slight increase in expected passenger numbers. They assume that the money from the previous financing until the first quarter of 2021 rich.

The "Potsdamer Neuesten Nachrichten" had written that the airport company had informed during the coalition negotiations in Brandenburg SPD, CDU and Greens confidentially about the funding gap until 2024.

The BER is scheduled to open on October 31, 2020 with about nine years late. The new appointment was announced in late November. Shareholders are the federal government and the federal states of Berlin and Brandenburg.
