Twenty-five members of the Democratic Alliance for Betterment of Hong Kong and the education sector Zhu Guoqiang wrote to the Secretary for Education, Yang Yunxiong, today (20th), arguing that the epidemic is severe, and to protect the health of teachers and students in secondary schools, the Education Bureau should announce the suspension of face-to-face teaching in all secondary schools in Hong Kong.
The DAB's joint letter stated that the bureau should implement the "internal non-proliferation" anti-epidemic strategy and make adjustments until the epidemic has eased.

In the letter, the DAB also pointed out that because the HKDSE will be held in three months, the bureau asked the bureau to allow schools to flexibly arrange for secondary six students to return to the school for the examination, and face-to-face teaching is not allowed during this period.
The DAB believes that if the HKDSE arrangement is affected by the epidemic, the bureau should announce the backup plan as soon as possible, so as to avoid unnecessary pressure on candidates due to the temporary change of the arrangement.
In addition, Member of Education Chu Kwok-keung, together with Members Deng Fei, Kwok Ling-lai, Leung Tsz-ying, Chow Man-kong and Yao Pak-leung, sent a letter to Yang Run-hsiung, saying that they had received attention from the industry and the public recently, and hoped that the government would announce the suspension of face-to-face classes in all schools in Hong Kong to prevent further epidemics diffusion.
They urged the Education Bureau to give top priority to the health of teachers and students, and thanked the Education Bureau for announcing that all schools in Hong Kong would take the Lunar New Year holiday earlier to reduce the risk of infection among teachers and students.
