Aleppo-Sana
Today, the Central Library of Aleppo University hosted a plastic exhibition that included 26 paintings by professors, students and employees of St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, Russia.
The exhibition, titled “Palmyra of the North,” embodied the participants’ approach to the fates and challenges faced by the Russian city of Saint Petersburg, which is similar to Palmyra in its antiquity, the richness of its civilization, and its targeting by invaders.
Dr. Maher Karman, President of Aleppo University, pointed out in a statement to SANA reporter the importance of such activities that contribute to strengthening cultural cooperation between Syria and Russia, especially that Palmyra is very similar to Saint Petersburg in construction and artistic form, in addition to the common factor between them, which is being subjected to sabotage at the hands of Invaders, pointing out that Aleppo University always hosts artistic and cultural works of interest to students and enhances cultural relations with friendly countries.
Dr. Mahmoud Rahal, director of the Institutes of Aleppo University and coordinator of the exhibition, explained that the paintings vary between classics and artistic photography, and their subject is a city that has long been considered the cultural capital of Russia, pointing to the importance of exchanging artistic cultures between the Syrian and Russian sides to introduce civilizations and enrich the artistic cultural movement.
The plastic artist, Thaer Hezzi, considered the exhibition as an opportunity to learn about an artistic history that exists in the Russian city of Saint Petersburg, through paintings presented by a group of amateurs who conveyed to us their feelings, perceptions and artistic experiences, pointing to the importance of the history of Palmyra and the ancient Syrian civilization that we must re-imagined artistically to export. To the world as a formative language that represents our feelings, hopes and aspirations as Syrian youth.
The student Sana Yamani expressed her admiration for these artistic productions that enrich the cultural movement in the city of Aleppo.
