27-year-old Russian rapper commits suicide to escape mobilization in Ukraine

Suffering from mental illness, Ivan "Walkie" Peturin explained his gesture in a video posted on Telegram before ending his life. The musician who said his people “hostage of a madman” had affirmed not wanting “to commit the sin of murder”.

Russian rapper Ivan Peturin, better known as “Walkie,” was 27.

He ended his life in order to escape the partial mobilization announced by Vladimir Putin on September 21.

Before jumping from the top of his building in the city of Krasnodar (western Russia), the young man recorded a video published on Telegram, to explain his gesture.

“I cannot commit the sin of murder and do not want to.

May the people I love forgive me

,” he said with tears in his eyes.

Opposed to the mobilization of Russians to fight in Ukraine, the rapper wanted to accuse Vladimir Putin:

"We have become hostages of a madman who only gives us the choice between the army and prison."

For Ivan Peturin, suicide was a way of showing his disapproval of war:

“My last choice is to choose exactly how I die.

Whether it's killed by people we've attacked, or to protest one last time."

The suicide of Ivan Peturin comes after the announcement of the Russian president of a mobilization of 300,000 Russians of fighting age.

Many of them are desperately trying to escape military service in Ukraine.
