The ski season in Bavaria will start in 2022 only for those who have been vaccinated and those who have recovered.

How are the 2G rules controlled and what else do skiers have to consider?

An overview.

Munich - Strict rules apply to entry into Austria - which is probably why more skiers are being drawn to the Bavarian ski areas this year.

For example, the Bavarian Forest with the almost 1500 meter high Großer Arber is popular.

But here, too, the most important rule is: Without 2G proof, ski lifts and the like may not be used.

With a full vaccination or proof of recovery, nothing stands in the way of winter fun.

Skiing in Bavaria: 2G control when buying a ticket

Cable car and gondola operators are only allowed to transport guests with 2G proof up the mountain. The easiest way is to show this on the Cov Pass app. A photo ID is also mandatory. At some ski resorts, a one-time check is enough - for example at the Großer Arber in the Bavarian Forest, like the

BR

reported.

The information is stored there on a key card, which is also needed for ski rental or the inn.

Even with a season ticket, the vaccination status is only checked when you buy it.

Elsewhere, skiers must complete a daily 2G check as many operators no longer sell multi-day passes.

In any case, it is important that season tickets and key cards are only permitted for one person - anyone who passes them on to others is even liable to prosecution.

According to

BR

, this is checked particularly carefully on the Großer Arber.

Skiers are photographed at each turnstile and biometric data is compared.

If, for example, the size does not match, it does not go any further.

The most important rules in Bavarian ski areas:

  • 2G applies to all gondolas and cable cars.

  • Only those who present proof of vaccination AND photo ID have access.

  • Masks are compulsory in all waiting and checkout areas as well as in the gondolas and most lifts.

  • Children under 14 are exempt from 2G.

  • Young people up to the age of 17 do not need a 2G proof if they have a student ID.

Ski areas in Bavaria: Less space in the gondolas and masks are compulsory

Skiers should allow a little more time in the queue this season.

The operators are only allowed to use small gondolas up to 75 percent.

In large cable cars it is even only 25 percent.

Visitors can do something themselves to make it go faster.

You should have your ID and 2G proof ready.

Edeltrud Eichberg, 2G inspector at the Großer Arber, told

BR:

"There's still a lot of rummaging around and it's often hidden somewhere in the pockets of the ski gear".

The following also applies: In the waiting area, in the gondola, in lifts and sometimes also in open lifts, visitors must wear a mask at all times.

It may only be removed on the ski slope.

2G rule for children and young people too?

For the little skiers, the rules are a little looser, as the

BR

reports.

Children under the age of 14 do not need a 2G ID.

Young people up to the age of 17 are also exempt from this – provided they still attend school and can prove this.

Families should therefore definitely remember to take their student ID cards with them in addition to their ID cards.
