Four Iranian military ships have been located in the Red Sea in recent months, Defense Minister Bnei Gantz revealed today (Tuesday) in his speech at the Economist Conference in Greece.

"Iran is expanding its aggressive operations in the region in general and in the maritime space in particular, and it is militarily based in the Red Sea with military ships that patrol in an unusual manner," he said.

Gantz noted that "the presence of Iran's military forces in the Red Sea in recent months is the most significant in a decade."

He described it as a "direct threat to trade, energy and the global economy."

He later revealed that Iran had recently conducted an experiment in Samanan province with a satellite launcher designed to launch a long-range intercontinental missile.

"Such a missile could pose a threat to spaces in Central Europe," he added.

"Even as active advanced UAVs and other missile systems that Iran is developing, we can reach, even now, given a decision, ranges of thousands of kilometers, including the area where we are."
