A healthy routine is more than nutrition and fitness.

How many times have you told yourself that you want to change your life and build yourself a routine that will really do you good, one that will replace the old habits that only hurt you and destroy your body and mind?

Our brain is a champion at planning for itself "revolutions", those dramatic changes after which everything will be better.

This tendency is exacerbated around major events such as the new year, birthdays, and now - the long-awaited return to routine.

Every now and again we tell ourselves that from now on everything will be different - that we will start to take care of health, dedicate time to family, eat healthy and maybe even open up new hobbies.

The bad news is that for many of us, this promise will probably go down the drain.

To avoid this, let's understand what the biggest mistakes we make on the way to a healthier routine are:

1. Your perfectionism simply destroys everything

It is said that the greatest enemy of the very good is the excellent.

People think that perfectionism is a trait that contributes to them, but according to experts in the field, it can actually be destructive and dangerous.

One study for example, a link between it and depression.

Other studies suggest a link between it and low self-esteem, eating disorders and even obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).

It is better to give less than 100 percent than not to give at all.

When we want to develop positive habits, perfectionism is exactly what destroys us time and time again.

For example, many will not start exercising if they are not exactly in the ideal mood that allows it, will not perform tasks that require creativity if they do not feel a wave of muse washing over them, or even avoid social gatherings if they do not look or feel their best.

Therefore, in order to develop a healthier routine, it is also important to learn to compromise sometimes.

Understand that we will not always be at our peak - and even in such a situation - it is okay and even desirable to do the things we planned, even if it will be in a "half clutch".

2. Your morning is too crazy

In an ideal world, we would wake up in the morning, drink coffee with music on the terrace, read a newspaper, go for a walk in nature - and only then start the day when we are fresher, calmer and more focused.

In the real world, there are kids to take care of, nerve-wracking driving in traffic jams, phone calls, closing tasks and lots of things to sort out.

A study conducted at the University of Pennsylvania found that our morning routine greatly affects our mood and efficiency throughout the day.

So, if your morning is busy, annoying and shaky, the rest of your day is not really much likely to look different.

Take advantage of the first hours of the day to give your soul some time.

Therefore, the first and most important thing to think about if you want the new routine to look different from what you were used to until now - is to see how you make your mornings as peaceful as possible.

All the tasks that sit on you can be done better in the future if you just take advantage of the first hours of the day to give yourself and your mind some time.

Do everything possible to make it possible, even if it means getting up earlier than the kids, before the "mess" at home begins.

3. You are not accurate enough

A change in the routine of life does not just happen because we want it to happen.

It must come from the precise and meticulous planning of our day.

If you create a table with all the things you want to do, both at work, with family and friends and just for your fun, it will be easier for you to plan your day in the best way.

Next to each such thing try to write also how long it will take you to do it.

Always give yourself more time for a task than you think it will actually take.

That way, you can go through this list every morning, choose a few things you want to do and plan your day in the best way.

And it's not just the advice of gurus who think they invented the wheel.

This is exactly how pilots, doctors, CEOs and virtually anyone who wants to succeed in what they do work. There is also a long line of studies that prove the significant benefits of this simple and powerful habit.

4. It's too easy to drive you crazy

Sometimes your day starts off wonderful - you stand on each of your tasks, feel calm and even satisfied with yourself, and then, one word out of place is thrown at you by a colleague you can't stand, and your whole day is already painted black.

When other people have such tremendous power over you, it will be very difficult to maintain stability that will allow you complete control over your life.

Therefore, if you really want your life to look different in the new routine, it is important that you develop an inner resilience that will prevent you from getting carried away after any negative emotion that arises in you throughout the day.

Leave the power with you.

Meditation is a great way to do this.

It is a tool that has also been praised by many scientists in recent years thanks to the fact that it is known as a factor that helps to produce structural changes in the brain that lead to improvement in a wide range of important aspects.

One of the benefits of meditation lies in the fact that it helps to improve mental stability, ground the mind and prevent it from drifting after every emotion and thought that arises in it.

If you put this tool into your routine, there is a good chance that you will suffer less from exhausting vortices of emotions - even after dealing with people who manage to drive you crazy over and over again.
