The United States began yesterday (Friday) administering the third dose of the corona virus to people 65 and older and at-risk groups, including patients with serious illnesses and workers at high risk for infection.

The various states have launched an information campaign to encourage immunization and clarify eligibility conditions, and President Joe Biden has promised that the rations will be accessible and free of charge.

In a statement from the White House, Biden said 60 million citizens could be vaccinated with the additional dose according to criteria approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and called on the 70 million who have not yet been vaccinated to do so soon.

"Listen to the voices of the unvaccinated Americans lying in hospital beds, breathing their last breaths, saying 'if only I had been vaccinated.' People who were not supposed to die - are dying."

Biden has tried to promote the opening of the possibility of a third-dose vaccination to anyone who has been eight months since he was vaccinated this week, but regulators have not yet approved it.

"We look forward to expanding the vaccination entitlement for the entire population," the president added.

The FDA and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the United States have decided to start with limited groups only, along with bringing forward eligibility to six months from the previous dose.

At this point the only other approved portion is that of Pfizer, and those of Moderna and Johnson & Johnson have not yet come up for discussion.

Coming soon to the whole population?

State and federal officials in the United States told the New York Times that the new vaccination campaign would look different from the previous one, based on huge stadiums and convention centers.

Instead, pharmacies, GPs and small clinics that have been adapted to provide vaccines will be the ones to distribute the booster.

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, pharmacies now provide about 70% of all vaccines.

Biden has stated the booster fats will be available at an early 80,000 across the state, including more than 40,000 pharmacies.
