A boy in Alabama has finally admitted to accidentally shooting his mother to death, after initially making up a different story to explain her death, local authorities said Monday.

The victim, identified as Ayobiyi Cook, 29, was killed shortly after midnight on Saturday in Forestdale, north of Birmingham.
In his opening statement, the boy said he had seen a man run away from the house where his mother had been shot, shortly before someone called 911.
But there was no sign that someone had forced the door, according to the sheriff's office, which determined that it was "not possible" that the death had occurred as the boy had described.
