A 6.9-magnitude earthquake struck Northwest China's Menyuan County at 1:45 a.m. local time this Saturday, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC).
The earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers, the CENC said.
Tunnels and equipment in a section of the Lanzhou-Xinjiang high-speed railway were "severely damaged" by the earthquake, and the high-speed railway was suspended, state media CCTV reported.
A video shows a significant earthquake shaking in the area, with some damage from falling roof tiles from buildings and animals running during the quake.
After the move, the emergency management departments of the Qinghai and Gansu provinces dispatched about 500 rescuers to the epicenter which is located on the border of the two provinces, and no casualties have been reported so far, according to the news agency. official Xinhua.
