In order to reduce the risk of infection in the classroom or office, CO2 traffic lights offer an important orientation aid, Franz Biechl is convinced of this.

That is why the businessman from Reichersbeuern has such devices developed - and can hardly save himself from inquiries from all over Germany.

Reichersbeuern -

Some only do it for two minutes, others ten times as long.

"This is currently handled differently by every teacher - not always for the goodwill of students and parents," says Susanne Bräu, spokeswoman for the Lupus company.

In order to facilitate the "correct" ventilation and thus reduce the risk of corona infection, the small family business from Reichersbeuern recently started selling so-called CO2 traffic lights.

The demand is enormous.

Minimizing the risk of infection is the top priority

"In the current corona pandemic, we all aim to minimize the risk of infection," says a press release.

"Ventilation is a key element in preventing infections and improving indoor air quality." However, implementation is a challenge, especially in closed rooms. How should teachers know when the right time is for ventilation and for how long Have the windows open?

“That also depends on how big the room is and how many there are,” says Susanne Bräu.

Current information on the Corona situation in the Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen district can be read here.

A CO2 traffic light can help: It measures the current carbon dioxide concentration in the room.

“It gives a rough guide to the virus load in the room,” says Bräu.

A low CO2 value in the room not only minimizes the risk of infection with Covid-19 or flu.

It also improves the ability to concentrate.

"Whether in schools or conference rooms - indoor air quality will remain an important issue for all of us for a long time to come," says Lupus Managing Director Franz Biechl.

In this respect, from the 55-year-old's point of view, the purchase of a CO2 traffic light is a sustainable investment.

The Bavarian state government has approved a funding program worth 37 million euros

Apparently many see it this way: “On the same day that the Bavarian state government approved the funding program worth 37 million euros, we received our first orders,” says Biechl.

The schools can receive support from the Free State of 7.27 euros per child - but only until the end of December.

At a cost of 248 euros net, the traffic lights finance themselves, according to Biechl, almost by themselves.

So it's no wonder that the entrepreneur has received almost 500 orders so far.

"Over 5000 more are still in the approval process in public tenders." The devices will be delivered from December.

First orders already received

According to Lupus, the display of the traffic lights is based on precise metrological monitoring of the indoor air quality.

At a concentration of more than 1000 ppm (German: particles per million) it jumps to yellow, at 2000 ppm to red the traffic light is green again ”, it says in a press release.

According to Bräu, this saves energy especially in winter because the windows are not left open longer than necessary.

Another positive side effect: children and teachers are less cold.

According to Lupus, the noiseless traffic light system is being developed by the company Werma Signaltechnik from Baden-Württemberg.

Above all, it is also produced in Germany, emphasizes Biechl.

The state subsidies would therefore be reinvested in Germany.

Lupus acts as a sales partner.

Franz and Sabine Biechl founded the family business in 1996 in Reichersbeuern.

Since then, according to the company, it has developed into one of the leading partners for schools, kindergartens, educational institutions and offices throughout Germany.

The range includes office and training materials as well as educational teaching materials.
