Today, the “Damascus Cycling Tour” was held from Al-Jalaa Sports City in Damascus towards Barada Club, which is organized by the Syrian Cycling Federation in cooperation with the “Yalla on Bicycle” initiative on the occasion of President Bashar Al-Assad’s performance of the constitutional oath.

The march traveled many streets of Damascus, starting in front of Al-Jalaa Sports City on the Mazzeh highway towards Al-Akram Mosque, then the Umayyads to the old Al-Maarad Street, Al-Marjah Squares, the Governorate and Al-Saba’ Bahrat, to the streets of Baghdad, Bab Touma, Al-Qasaa, Aleppo Street, Murshid Khater and Al-Abed, all the way to Arnous Square, then Shahbandar and Mazraa The end point is in front of Barada Club.

The head of the Syrian Cycling Federation, Khaled Kokash, confirmed in a statement to reporters that the march is an expression of the participants’ support for Syria’s victory in its constitutional entitlements and the performance of the presidential oath, in addition to its goal of spreading the culture of cycling among the various members of society, pointing out that there is a committee in the federation called “Cycling for All” to support and disseminate this goal.

The Secretary of the Federation, Maher Selim, said in a statement to SANA that the athletes always express their support for their country's constitutional entitlements through these sporting events, pointing to the role of the effectiveness in encouraging different segments to ride a bike and preserving the environment and health, noting that the number of participants reached about 350.

The official of the “Yalla on Bicycle” initiative, Abdul Rahman Jabassini, explained in a statement to reporters that the march includes two goals, the first is to support the presidential election, and the second is to achieve the longest cycling path in the city of Damascus (20 km), in addition to the fact that it gathers for the first time all the “bicycles” teams in Damascus, whether sports teams or amateurs, including “Meshwar Biskelet, Darha, Phoenix, Road Ride, and others” and includes participants of all ages.

People’s Assembly member Khaled Al-Shweiki said in a statement to SANA: “The event is on the occasion of the constitutional oath, and we seek through it to develop this sport and spread the culture of bicycles, as the march today roamed many of the main and secondary streets of Damascus to be watched by the largest number of people.”

A number of participants expressed the importance of this event in spreading the culture of cycling, as Rafik Al-Mulla indicated that his participation comes with the aim of practicing sports and acquaintance among fans of the game, while 24-year-old athlete Mohamed Nasri indicated that he is participating with his “Riders” cycling team to prove that Syria is still strong and sports receive support and attention.

And from the “Darja” team coming from As-Suwayda to participate in the march, the young woman Norman El-Din said, “We participate to encourage girls to ride bicycles and increase the number of people who join them because this sport is healthy and environmentally friendly.” Quneitra player Ritaj Hourani agreed with her opinion, who confirmed that Syrian athletes will remain one hand in support of any entitlement related to Their country, while the 16-year-old Hisham Al-Kurdi stated that the increase in the number of people wishing to practice this sport opens the way in the future to establish their own paths within the streets.

Hadeel Khallouf, head of the Individual Games Office in Damascus, in charge of chairing Barada Sports Club, praised the athletes’ celebrations in their own way, as President al-Assad performed the constitutional oath, in addition to spreading the culture of cycling for both sexes, “male and female,” given its importance in maintaining health.

Among the companies sponsoring the event, Ghanna Al-Sayed, Director of Promotion and Public Relations, and Muhammad Al-Hafi, the official in charge of promoting their companies’ support for various civil society activities, emphasized the instillation of cultural and sports concepts that benefit women and society, and their continued support for any social activity for Syria.
