Astronomers said an exceptionally large meteor briefly lit up southern Norway, making a roaring sound as it passed across the sky.
And the French channel Monte Carlo quoted the Norwegian Meteorite Network as saying: "Initial data indicate that part of the meteorite may have fallen to the ground in a densely forested area called Vinnimarca, only 60 kilometers west of the capital, Oslo."
The network indicated that it is analyzing a video clip and other data sent on social media, in which a flash of light appears for at least once, illuminating a marina in Holmestrand, south of the capital, Oslo, in an attempt to determine the origin and destination of the meteorite.
In turn, Morten Billet, one of the experts in the network, said, “The meteorite’s speed was between 15 and 20 kilometers per second and it lit up the sky during the night for about five to six seconds.” He added: “What we saw was a large rock that likely moved from an area between Mars and Jupiter, which is our asteroid belt And when it passes at a lightning speed, it creates a light and may cause a degree of fear in people.
Billett said there were no reports of material damage or extreme panic, such as in 2013 when a meteor exploded over Russia.
