Accused of being at the heart of the Venezuelan power corruption system, Alex Saab had been detained since June 2020 in Cape Verde.

Alex Saab was extradited to the United States on Saturday.

He is scheduled to appear before the South Florida District Attorney on Monday on charges of money laundering and corruption.

He was arrested in Cape Verde while making a technical stopover with his private plane before going to Iran.

The government of Nicolas Maduro immediately suspended negotiations with the opposition which have been taking place since early September under the aegis of Norway.

Alex Saab was, officially, one of the government representatives in this negotiation, without participating in it.
