From his former prime ministers Jean-Pierre Raffarin and Alain Juppé to his ministers Jean-Louis Debré, Jacques Toubon or Jean-François Copé, all made the trip to see the daughter of the Head of State, Claude Chirac, affix on the benches his father once occupied, a commemorative plaque.
The pain that brought together the many heirs of the founder of the RPR that day is not due only to nostalgia for a bygone era.
