AC Milan sign Stefano Pioli as new coach

It took less than 24 hours for AC Milan to introduce a new coach. Stefano Pioli has a past with the city rivals.

AC Milan quickly made a find in his search for a coach. Only one day after the release of the previous coach Marco Giampaolo, the club announced Stefano Pioli as new head coach committed. The 53-year-old will receive a two-year contract with the 18-time Italian champions until the summer of 2021.

Most recently, Pioli worked at AC Fiorentina until April, and has already coached six Serie A clubs. With city rivals Inter Milan, Lazio, US Palermo and FC Parma, he played in the European Cup. Inter trained between 2016 and 2017.

With only three wins from seven games, Milan is only three points ahead of the relegation zone in 13th. Milano's leadership seemed to Giampaolo after only four months in office apparently no sustainable turnaround. The coach also did not help anymore that his team was able to celebrate a sense of achievement again last weekend with a 2-1 win at CFC Genoa after three defeats in a row. Giampaolo had followed in the summer on World Champion Gennaro Gattuso.
