The glamorous medal-winning phase of Tokyo 2020 kicked off with the start of today's competitions after the spectacular opening of the Summer Olympics yesterday.
At three in the morning, a number of games began, most notably table tennis, archery, handball and volleyball.
Syrian table tennis champion Hend Zaza, the youngest participant in the Olympic Games, came out of the women's singles preliminary round, losing to her Austrian competitor, Gia, by four games to no charge.

Ecuadorean Richard Karabes won the gold in the road race in bicycles, and Iran's Javad Foroughi won the gold of the ten-meter pistol, achieving an Olympic record after scoring 244.8 points, ahead of Serbian Damir Mix and China's Wei Pang, second and third, respectively.
