At the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon, there was a mass panic before the round of 16 between the hosts and the Comoros in front of the Stade d'Olembe, when spectators apparently wanted to enter the stadium without a ticket.

In addition to eight dead, there were 38 injured.

"Who closed the gate?"

Patrice Motsepe, President of the African Football Confederation CAF, has now explained that a closed stadium gate probably led to the deadly mass panic.

'The gate should have been open or they would have gone through, but for some reason it was closed,' he said, and asked, 'Who closed the gate?

Who is responsible for this goal?” Cameroon's President Paul Biya ordered an investigation into the accident on Tuesday.

A quarter-final of the Africa Cup of Nations has already been moved to another stadium.

The match scheduled for Sunday will be played at the Ahmadou Ahidjo stadium instead of the Stade d'Olembe.

Both arenas are located in the capital Yaoundé.

Minute of silence at all games

According to Motsepe, the report of a commission of inquiry must be available by Friday.

“When people lose their lives and get hurt, we have to take responsibility together.

There's no excuse for what happened,' he said.

From now on there will be a minute's silence before all matches in the competition, the CAF is in contact with the families of the victims.
