After quarantine - Piatek stumbled upon Hertha's comeback victory in Mainz

After two weeks in the corona quarantine, Hertha BSC initially wobbled in Mainz, but still took the lead. The fact that it wasn't enough to win in the end was due to a missed big chance in the final phase.

Hertha BSC has reported back in the Bundesliga relegation battle with a draw from the corona quarantine.

At Mainz 05, Hertha did not get beyond a 1: 1 (1: 1), Lucas Tousart put the capital city in the lead (36th minute), Phillipp Mwene equalized (40th).

Herthas Krzysztof Piatek (83rd) missed the big chance to win.

Hertha remains penultimate despite the point, but has two games less than the competition.

Mainz secured twelfth place and is now six points ahead of the relegation rank.

For the Berliners it was the first game after a two-week corona quarantine, after coach Pál Dárdai, among others, had tested positive.

The Berlin team started shakily on the defensive, but goalkeeper Alexander Schwolow made an outstanding one-on-one with Mainz striker Adam Szalai in the 21st minute.

A quarter of an hour later the ball was suddenly in the Mainz goal;

Lucas Tousart headed a free-kick from Marton Dárdai into the goal (36th).

Mainz central defender Stefan Bell was even lucky that he did not see yellow-red for the previous foul.

Immediately afterwards he was replaced.

Mainz determining the game

The game was largely determined by the Mainz team - and came to equalize through Mwene: The 27-year-old circled a ball beautifully from around 20 meters into the right angle (40th).

Schwolow flew far, but unsuccessfully in the end.

The attacking efforts of both teams remained unsuccessful in the further course of the game.

Hertha should have scored the winning goal: After a low cross from Vladimir Darida, Piatek came free and centrally to the end from a few meters, but the ball stumbled past the left post (83rd).

At least one point remains that fits into Dárdai's planning: the Hertha coach had declared four points from the first post-quarantine games.
