Air France is committed to drastically lowering its CO2 emissions in France, in particular by reducing the number of its domestic flights where the TGV is an alternative, in return for public aid granted to the company to deal with the coronavirus crisis, a said Transport Minister Elisabeth Borne on Sunday.

" In exchange for the loan guaranteed by the State, Air France has made very strong commitments to reduce by 50% the CO2 emissions of its domestic flights by 2024 with in particular a drastic reduction on the routes where there is a rail alternative in less than 2h30, "said the minister on France Inter.
The Air France pilots' union (Spaf), a very minority, warned management on Saturday about its plans to restructure the short-haul activity.
Air France-KLM has obtained aid of 7 billion euros from France to cope with the virtual paralysis of world air traffic caused by the pandemic of new coronavirus.
The German company Lufthansa, which for its part is discussing with the government a rescue plan of nine billion euros, announced Sunday that it intends to resume its flights to 20 destinations from mid-June, among which several popular holiday destinations.
