Algeria expressed its regret over the casualties as a result of the Tayouneh events in Beirut, calling on the Lebanese parties to show a spirit of responsibility and wisdom to preserve the unity of the Lebanese people.
Gunmen from the Lebanese Forces militia attacked peaceful demonstrators yesterday in the Tayouneh area, killing seven people, injuring more than sixty people, and many of them are still in hospitals for treatment.
"Algeria is following with great concern the development of the situation in brotherly Lebanon and expresses its deep regret over the casualties as a result of the current events in the capital, Beirut," the Algerian news agency quoted the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs as saying in a statement today.
The statement added that "Algeria calls on all Lebanese parties to show a spirit of responsibility and wisdom to preserve the unity of the brotherly Lebanese people," stressing "the necessity of ensuring the normal functioning of state institutions and responding to the needs and requirements of a decent life for citizens."
