Algeria, the defending champion, was eliminated from the African Nations Championship from the group stage, after losing today to the Ivory Coast, 1-3.
Ivory Coast advanced in the 24th minute of the match through Franck Kissier, Ibrahim Sinjari doubled the lead in the 39th minute and Pepe added the third goal in the 54th minute, before Algeria reduced the difference through Sofiane Bendabka.
The referee canceled two goals for Ivory Coast due to offside, while Riyad Mahrez missed a penalty kick for Algeria in the 59th minute after his shot hit the left post.
With this result, Algeria officially exited the tournament, while Ivory Coast qualified for the 16th round at the top of its group.
