The United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reported that between this Thursday and Friday it placed 92 migrants from Haiti under its custody, who it presumes were abandoned by smugglers in the island of Mona, located in the maritime strip between the island of Hispaniola and Puerto Rico.

CBP regional spokesman Jeffrey Quiñones said the Coast Guard will transport them from Mona Island to the agency's detention center in Aguadilla, western Puerto Rico.

Quiñones anticipated that they are preparing for more arrivals.

"We have the expectation that more (migrants) may arrive in Mona this weekend," he said.

CBP indicated that 71 migrants were located Thursday and the other 21 this Friday.

Quiñones pointed out that the migrants will be transferred in groups to the CBP offices in Aguadilla, since they do not have enough space to transport them all at once.

"The rest of the group will be transported to Mayagüez tomorrow Saturday so that the Border Patrol can assume their control and processing," Quiñones said via text messages.

Regarding processing, it is expected that there are migrants who seek asylum in the US but not all can prove that they have a case and are deported.
