According to the Grasse prosecutor's office, it all started with a fight involving two families.
The shooting, which occurred on Tuesday, claimed the life of a young man, aged 16 and two others were injured.
An “individual came to the scene with a handgun and fired several times, hitting three people,” the prosecution said in a statement.
The two injured people, a minor and a young adult, "were hit by projectiles in the shoulder", notes the prosecution, adding that "their lives are not in danger".
The facts took place Tuesday noon on land occupied by travelers in the town of Villeneuve-Loubet, near Nice, near the coast.
During the initial argument, those involved allegedly came to blows before the alleged perpetrator returned to the scene with a handgun.
A dispute, under the background of deception
The two injured victims are members of the own family of the alleged author of the shots, according to the prosecution.
According to BFM Côte d'Azur who revealed this information, the family dispute would be due to a "deception" within these families who also bear the same surname.
Following these facts, three people were arrested in the process and placed in police custody, "including the alleged perpetrator of the shots who admitted having fired but, he said, without wanting to hit people", specifies the parquet floor of Grasse.
He said he wanted to "shoot in the air".
The investigation was entrusted to the research brigade of the Cannes gendarmerie.
The defendants must be presented Thursday to an investigating magistrate following an introductory indictment on the count of manslaughter.
