In a press release, the prefect of Alpes-Maritimes announced this Sunday the implementation of new health measures in the department.
From this Sunday until August 16, wearing a mask outdoors will be mandatory in certain high-density areas.
The consumption of alcohol and the distribution of amplified music on public roads are also prohibited.
These measures come into force while the department is facing a sharp increase in contamination like the rest of France, nearly 1,104 people tested positive for Covid-19 just last Wednesday.
The incidence rate increased by more than 200% in one week in the Alpes-Maritimes to exceed 400 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

Wearing a mask is compulsory outdoors in densely populated places
The wearing of the mask extends in all the communes of the department.
It is now mandatory outdoors from the age of 11 in areas with a high density of people.
Open-air and covered markets are concerned as well as flea markets, shopping malls, urban streets with pedestrian traffic, and city centers with a high concentration of public.
The prefecture adds that these measures also concern the demonstrations and the perimeters surrounding certain places:
within a perimeter of 50 m around the entrance to nurseries, schools, colleges and high schools, 15 minutes before and after the opening and closing of these establishments.
within a perimeter of 50 m around the accesses to higher education and artistic establishments during visiting hours.
within a perimeter of 50 m around the entrance to establishments open to the public in which the wearing of a mask is compulsory under the regulatory provisions in force.
Wearing a mask will not be compulsory in natural spaces, urban green spaces such as parks, gardens or even on beaches.
The obligation will not apply to people practicing physical or sporting activities, or those with disabilities who have a medical certificate.

Alcohol consumption and music prohibited on public roads
The consumption of "all alcoholic beverages on public roads" will also be prohibited.
Playing or broadcasting music will also be prohibited on public roads, even for establishments open to the public and outdoors.
The mayor of Nice Christian Estrosi said he was in favor of this type of measure.
He asked recently to ban music on the terraces of places of restoration in order to "limit the crowds, conducive to the spread of the virus", according to BFMTV Côte d'Azur.
On Twitter, the elected representative thanked the prefecture for the implementation of these measures to fight against the epidemic increase which has strongly affected the coast in recent days.
