The Hong Kong Ocean Park Conservation Fund received a notification yesterday (12th) to follow up a case of cetacean stranding.

The staff of the Conservation Fund received reports that the skeleton of an adult dolphin was found in Sai Wan Village, Sai Kung. The bones of an adult dolphin were dissected yesterday and the dolphin was brought back to the Ocean Park for detailed testing.

This case is the 13th case this year and the third case of cetacean stranding in the past week.

The Ocean Park Conservation Fund received a notification yesterday (12th) that the skeleton of an adult dolphin was found in Sai Wan Village, Sai Kung.

Looking through the data, on the 6th of this month (last Tuesday), an adult male finless porpoise was found stranded in the sea off Haixiawan and Chizhou, about 175 cm in length. The body was severely decayed when it was found; on the 10th of this month, A young female finless porpoise measuring 92 cm in length was found in Qingshui Bay. The body was moderately decomposed at the time of discovery.

As for the dolphin bones found yesterday, about 190 cm in length, the specific species has yet to be determined.

The Hong Kong Ocean Park Conservation Fund urges the public to call the 1823 hotline if suspected cases of whales, dolphins and sharks are stranded, and provide the time, location, and photos of the stranding, so that the action team can arrive at the scene as soon as possible to follow up.
