Andy Murray has won a tournament on the ATP Tour for the first time since March 2017. The Scottish tennis professional won in the final of Antwerp against his longtime rival Stan Wawrinka 3: 6, 6: 4, 6: 4 and could then control his emotions difficult. It was the twelfth victory for Murray in the 20th duel with the Swiss.
In a hard-fought finale, it looked towards the end of the second set after a success of Wawrinka. At the score of 3: 6, 4: 4 and 30:40 a shot was given to Murray's out, but the former world number one checked the decision at his own serve and the challenge proved him right. It went over debut, Murray prevented the break and took the second set. "I'm very proud of my performance," said the 32-year-old afterwards. "That's one of my biggest victories."
In the third set, Murray had already broken back, but after 2:27 hours transformed the Olympic champion, who had undergone a second hip replacement in January and had actually almost completed his career, his first match point for a total of 46th tournament victory. Most recently, Murray won a tournament in Dubai in early March 2017.
