On the front line for almost a year, the doctors who take care of Covid patients placed in intensive care remain poorly known to the general public.
In France, behind the term resuscitator hide two specialties, intensive care anesthesia, perioperative medicine, and intensive care intensive medicine.
The latter work in intensive care units, where they take care of any patient whose one or more vital organs have failed.
The activities of anesthesiologists are more heterogeneous: anesthesia alone, surgical anesthesia and associated resuscitation, and for 20 to 25% pure resuscitation.
The two specialties would share roughly equally the 5,000 or so intensive care positions.
