Social networks are still buzzing around the photos of former footballer Samir Nasri, who officially retired just two weeks ago, and was last seen with a wide belly during a showcase match of former Marseille stars.

"He looks like he's wearing an inflatable suit," was just one of a flood of derogatory reactions to the former Arsenal and Manchester City star's picture.

Now that Nasri's photos have gone viral, there have been reactions from surfers who have come out against the shaming done to the Frenchman.

"For all the pages on the web that distribute Nasri's photos, stop by," tweeted Sky Sports reporter Kyle Walker.

"You know what you're doing and it's disgusting. You do it for likes and then more people write that you care about the mental health of others."

"So what about he gained a few pounds, he does not play football and has no need to look like others think he should. It's sad that people still laugh at people's weight without knowing what the background is."

Another surfer posted a tweet in which the Brazilian Ronaldo was seen celebrating while he was an active player, adding the caption: "Does anyone remember how this guy's retirement went?".

The aforementioned series of tweets and reactions have spawned a number of heated debates.

Another surfer may have best summed up the storm surrounding Nasri: "A reminder to anyone who mocks: Nasri is a better athlete than you and also richer. He looks great. He retired and he smiles - don't be dumb."
