French writer Annie Arnaud is the winner of the 2022 Nobel Prize for Literature, the Swedish Academy announced, for "the courage and clinical sharpness with which she reveals the roots, alienation and collective restraints of personal memory."

French writer Annie Arnaud is the winner of the 2022 Nobel Prize for Literature, the Swedish Academy announced today (Thursday).
However, the committee stated that it had not yet received the message, after they were unable to locate it.
"The winner of the 2022 Nobel Prize for Literature, Annie Arnaud, believes in the liberating power of writing. Her work is uncompromising and written in a simple and pure language," the committee's reasoning reads.
"With great courage and clinical sharpness, Annie Arnault reveals the agony of the experience of class, in the theory of shame, humiliation, envy or inability to see who you are, she has achieved something admirable and sustainable."
Arnault, born in 1940, is one of the most well-known and pioneering writers in France today.
She has written over 20 books characterized by autobiographical fiction written in a unique way.
In Hebrew, her books "I didn't get up from my night" and "The event", both published by Resling, were published.
This is the 121st year in which the prize has been awarded, and almost every year it has been awarded to a writer who created "the most extraordinary work, with an idealistic tendency."
The announcement was made live on the Nobel Prize website and on YouTube.
In 2021, the Tanzanian writer Abdulrazak Gurana won.
Before him, the Canadian-Jewish poet Louise Glick received the prize, and in 2020, two writers won at once for the years 2018 and 2019: the Polish writer Olga Tokarczuk and the Austrian writer and playwright Peter Handecke, respectively.
The reason for the double award is that in 2018 the prestigious award was canceled for the first time since 1943, following a crisis that erupted in the Swedish Academy and concerned, among other things, sexual assaults and the resignation of Academy members.

In 2017, the British writer Kazuo Ishuguro won the award, and before that the award was unexpectedly given to the American singer and composer Bob Dylan.
The only Israeli to win the prize is S. Y. Agnon. It was awarded to him in 1966 alongside the German poet Nelly Zakash.
