The Brazilian government announced that the Minister of Health, Marcelo Quiroga, had tested positive for the Corona virus, hours after he accompanied President Jair Bolsonaro to the United Nations General Assembly in New York yesterday.
And a statement by the Brazilian Government Communications Office, published today, stated that “the minister will remain in New York in quarantine,” while the results that were conducted for the rest of the delegation were proven negative.
Minister Quiroga told CNN Brasil that he had committed to wearing a mask throughout his time at the United Nations building.
The Brazilian Minister of Health is the second member of his country's delegation to New York whose results are positive for the virus, after a young diplomat from the team who traveled early to prepare for Bolsonaro's visit tested positive.
Yesterday, Brazil recorded 203 deaths and 7,884 new infections with the Corona virus.
