The merger of the national anti-doping agencies iNado reacted "very concerned" to the dismissal of the Russian anti-doping chief Yuri Ganus. "The clean sport movement can only be effective if anti-doping organizations maintain their independence without the interference of sport," said the iNado statement.

Ganus was released on Friday as director general of the anti-doping agency (Rusada). The Olympic Committee and the Paralympic Committee of Russia, the founders of Rusada, accuse him of financial misconduct. Among other things, he is said to have disguised and billed vacations as business trips. Ganus denies the allegations.

The World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada) stated in a statement that it would "closely monitor" developments at the Rusada. It is an important element that national anti-doping agencies can work independently. Last December, after numerous manipulations, Wada excluded Russia from major international competitions for four years, and the international sports court Cas will decide on the Russian appeal in November.

  • Here you can find a chronology of the Russian doping scandal.

Since taking office in 2017, Ganus has not shied away from naming those responsible in connection with the Russian doping scandals. In October he also attacked President Vladimir Putin in an interview with "Deutschlandfunk" and criticized him for his lack of support in the investigation.

As a result, the Rusada supervisory authority found "considerable irregularities in financial and economic activities" during an extraordinary audit and recommended that Ganus be released two weeks ago. He is said to have explained expenditures totaling 1.5 million dollars incomprehensible. Even before Ganus was released, his deputy Margarita Pachnotskaya had voluntarily left her post.
