The normal wards of the clinics in the Starnberg district are occupied to varying degrees with corona patients.

Some feel the omicron wave very much, others less so.

But they all report incidental findings.

District – Not only the German Hospital Society reports an increasing load on the normal wards in the course of the omicron wave. At least that's true for the Starnberg Clinic, according to spokesman Stefan Berger, there are currently 14 Covid 19 patients on the normal ward there. However, they were admitted mainly for other reasons, such as appendicitis. Sylke Will, spokeswoman for the Benedictus Hospital in Tutzing, also reports two “incidental findings”. However, the normal ward is very busy “in the course of the seasonal wave of infections”, i.e. because of other viruses.

In Herrsching there are currently two corona infected people in the normal ward.

There are four in the Gautinger Pulmonary Clinic (and seven in the intensive care unit).

The assessment of Marion Heiss-Neumann, Senior Physician in the Department of Infectious Diseases: “The burden and the inquiries are actually still limited at the moment, although the high number of infections is currently increasing among children and adolescents.

The generation of our patients - on average people over 50 - is obviously only slowly being recorded. "This could also be due to the vaccination status, according to Heiß-Neumann.

Spokeswoman Will says there can be no question of a shift in the corona cases from the intensive care unit to the normal ward in the Tutzingen hospital either.

Five infected people in the Starnberg children's ward

Ventilated or not? This is often the question when it comes to intensive care units. But how are Covid patients actually treated in the normal ward? Starnberg's clinic spokesman Berger answers briefly and compactly: "Oxygen administration and cortisone. For unvaccinated people with a possible risk, we also use an antibody drug that is also effective for omicrons. "For the next steps, it is relevant whether it is a localized infection of the upper respiratory tract - this is common in vaccinated omicron cases - or whether we see effects on the lungs, liver, kidneys and what phase the disease is in." When administering medication, you follow the guidelines of the Robert Koch Institute and professional societies.

Incidentally, there are five infected people in the children's ward in Starnberg.

Not just with, but because of Covid.
