It's Champions League time and Thomas Müller can only watch on TV: After his corona infection, the Bayern veteran would like to be back on the pitch as soon as possible.

Munich – Thomas Müller and Joshua Kimmich could only watch FC Bayern's Champions League game against Viktoria Pilsen on television.

Both are corona positive and were not allowed to intervene in the game themselves.

Her colleagues did the job with flying colors even without her: the final score was 5:0.

Müller paid tribute to the scorers in his Instagram story and also congratulated Sadio Mané there.

After some form difficulties in the last few weeks, the Senegalese played a great game and was even voted "Man of the Match".

Mueller and the triple

He actually wanted to complete another triple, now it became the "Covid Triple": Müller fell ill with Corona for the third time.

FC Bayern then hastily introduced new rules for their players: no more Oktoberfest, no autographs, no selfies with the fans.

The good news: both Müller and Kimmich are symptom-free and hope to return to the team quickly.

"I spoke to them, both of them are actually in a good mood.

They have no symptoms, they are fine," said sports director Hasan Salihamidzic after the match against Viktoria Pilsen.

But he also emphasized that the situation had to be dealt with “responsibly” in order to protect the other players and not carry any further corona infections into the Bayern squad.

"But we don't want to fall into this pandemic mode either, we try to lead a normal life," explained Salihamidzic.

Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann also warned of caution: "If they can't be tested on Friday, they won't play." The medical examination is crucial, but a few days of training breaks aren't particularly bad for Müller and Kimmich.

In addition, both are “not susceptible” to muscular injuries.

So good chances for Saturday?

Neuer and Goretzka do not want to make any predictions for Müller

Manuel Neuer and Leon Goretzka have demonstrated it in recent weeks: Both returned to the pitch relatively quickly after their corona illness.

But they don't want to make any predictions: "You can't compare them with each other.

The courses are so different there,” said Goretzka.

"I wouldn't rule out anything with either of them."

Goretzka: "In the end, these questions have to be asked of Julian"

Müller himself is optimistic on Instagram: "I'm doing very well so far.

Of course I hope that it stays that way, I'm confident that I can return to the pitch quickly." It's no wonder that the player from Weilheim wants to get back into action quickly: after all, he had just worked his way out of a difficult phase .

And in order to secure his regular place in the national team at the World Cup, it would certainly be an advantage if he could soon get back into the action.
