After a number of attempts at fraud using shock calls, the police in Hesse arrested several suspects. In the past few weeks, investigations have led to a total of seven people who could be considered perpetrators for such crimes, the police in Wiesbaden said on Thursday. Together with other police stations from the federal territory, it was possible to clear up acts with damage amounting to several hundred thousand euros.
Frankfurt / Wiesbaden - According to investigators, con artists had committed such crimes nationwide from mid-September to early October.
For example, last week an 80-year-old woman in Schmitten im Taunus received a call from a crying woman who pretended to be her daughter.
She said she had a traffic accident in which a girl was killed.
In order not to have to go into custody, she should now pay an amount of 25,000 euros.
When the 86-year-old husband of the person called went to hand over the money, the wife had doubts and alerted the police.
This arrested a 31-year-old suspect at the handover location.
