Temperatures of up to 37 degrees, hardly any drinking water or food: the situation on the Texan US border with Mexico is dramatic.

More than 10,000 asylum seekers were stranded here, and within a few days a temporary camp was set up under a bridge.

The structure runs over the Rio Grande and connects the Texan Del Rio with the Mexican city Ciudad Acuña.

In the past few days, people are said to have waded through the water back to Mexico again and again to get their bare minimums.

They then returned to wait for their application to be processed.

Most of those seeking protection are reportedly from Haiti, Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua.

The US authorities are apparently increasingly overwhelmed with the large number of new arrivals in the country. According to their own statements, the border guards now want to increase the number of staff on the Rio Grande, as well as provide drinking water and sanitary facilities. The criticism of US President Joe Biden is growing and he is coming under increasing pressure. He had withdrawn the rigid immigration regulations of his predecessor Donald Trump. However, Biden has not yet found a solution for the growing number of immigrants from Latin America.
