At a distance of 8,000 km, even in Europe you can feel the huge fires in the USA
Satellite data showed that toxic particles reached the northern hemisphere, in light of tens to hundreds of times more powerful fires than average. "Their volume and intensity are much higher than what we saw in our 18 years of surveillance."

The smoke from the unprecedented fires on the west coast of the United States has reached as far as Europe, the European Climate Monitoring Service said today (Wednesday).
According to information obtained from the Copernicus satellite, the raging fires in California, Oregon and Washington are "tens to hundreds of times more powerful" than average.
Because of strong barometric levels, the smoke from the fires stuck along the western part of North America for days and dangerous smog enveloped major cities like Portland, Oregon, San Francisco, California and Vancouver in Canada.
However, the weather changed on Monday, and the smoke advanced eastward and was also observed in the New York sky.
According to European Climate Services, toxic particles from the fires reached as far as 8,000 km east, to northern Europe.
It is estimated that the fires, which became more frequent following global warming, filled the air with more than 30 million tons of carbon dioxide. Since the middle of last month.
"The scale and intensity of these fires are far higher than what we saw in our 18 years of monitoring," said Mark Farrington, a senior European climate services scientist and forest fire expert, who noted the thick smoke had come so far. An area of more than 20,000 square kilometers, and at least 35 people perished.

The West Coast disaster has put global warming at the center of the agenda in the United States, weeks before the presidential election.
While Republican President Donald Trump dismisses the severity of the situation and claims that "science does not understand" the issue, his Democratic opponent Joe Biden says it is a state of emergency.
Although it has been scientifically difficult to prove a direct link between extreme weather events and climate change, there is a growing body of evidence that fires could not have been so powerful and widespread had the world average not risen during the industrial age.
Experts said the chance of the huge fires that hit Australia earlier this year was at least 30 per cent higher due to global warming.
