Drinking up quickly before going through airport security is annoying and stressful.

But will that soon be a thing of the past?

Maximum 100 milliliters: Frequent flyers know this magic number by heart.

Finally, in 2006, security measures were tightened.

Since then,

liquids of only up to 100 milliliters

can be taken in hand luggage on flights.

These must also be packed in a transparent bag that is resealable.

There is one bag per passenger, which takes up

space in your hand luggage during the

security check at the airport .

But it could be that this measure will soon be abolished!

A new computer technology should make it possible.

On the plane: taking a water bottle with you will soon no longer be a problem?

Accordingly, it is

already being tested at

Shannon Airport on the west coast of Ireland .

It is also the first airport in the EU to eliminate the liquid limit at security.

The new control system, called "state-of-the-art computer tomography" (CT), has been in use since October 2021.

The innovative computer technology reports to the staff at the security check whether the liquids in hand luggage are dangerous or not.

Taking bottled water on the plane is taboo.

But that is now possible at an Irish airport.

For this purpose, the high-tech security

system scans the

suitcases and backpacks and thus the things inside.

This is a great relief for passengers.

Ultimately, this means that passengers no longer have to stow water bottles or cosmetic products such as sunscreen, laptops, smartphones, etc. in separate containers and send them through the security check.

Instead, passengers can keep them

in their own baggage

.

What is practical: In addition, travelers no longer have to pay attention to the liquid limit and can stow

gels, creams and even medication in any quantity

and size in their hand luggage.

"We are not the first airport in the world to lift this rule, but we are the first in Ireland to do so," spokeswoman Nandi O'Sullivan told travel portal

Reisereporter.de

.

Ireland's Donegal Airport is said to have already installed the high-tech security system.

On the plane: No more long queues at the security check?

Another advantage is that long queues at the security check should be a thing of the past in the future.

"We are extremely proud of this project, which uses cutting-edge technology and is expected to

significantly reduce dwell time in airport security screening areas

," said Mary Considine, CEO of the Shannon Group.

According to this, the management of the airport assumes that the security check per passenger will only take half as long as before.

Ultimately, this also means that people can spend more time in restaurants and shops in the “duty free” area before departure.

With the hope that this will finally be reflected in the economic figures of Shannon Airport.
